How can I change my text message alert tone on my iPhone?

I just downloaded some free ringtones to my iPhone, and would like to use one as my text message alert. However, the ringtone is showing up in my ringtone list, not my text message tone list. How can I move it to my text message alert tone list? Thanks!

Is there a way I can use a voice memo as a message alert tone? I know how to use them as ringtones but I don’t know how to get them on to message alerts.

    Thanks

What if the voice memo is only 1 second long. I’m trying to do the same thing. Is there really no way to do this?

You can’t use it for a text message tone. I have tried before, the ringtones you download only permit you to use them for a ringtone and not a text message alert. It is because the text message alert is just a quick little sound and not a thirty second song.
