How do you download apps after jailbreaking your iPod touch?

I jailbroke my iPod Touch, and i have to use this app that was installed during the jailbreaking process called Installer. But it is not allowing me to download any apps from it. It also came with another app called Cydia, i don't know i have to download something from that in order to make the Installer app work. Little help?
