i want an ebook reader (or a good phone that can do the same thing) and dont know which one i should get, help?

im in australia but i dont mind buying something in america and getting it sent here by a friend
i was looking at the touchscreen blackberry, the iphone, the iliad (dymocks ebook reader), sonys ebook reader. are there any good ones that i might be missing in my considerations?
im currently using my n95 8g to read books and while its not bad i would rather have a touchscreen ebook reader with an equally good battery life. budgets around 1000 dollars australian plus minus 300 bucks
oh and i forgot to add that it needs to be able to read pdfs.
i dont know if my pdfs are drm ed but they read on adobe reader just fine
