Jail breaking tethered itouch questions?

Should i tether break my itouch what are the benefits. Does turning my itouch to sleep mode count as turning it off and if i do jailbreak my itouch what site do i go to to get all the cool things for a jailbreak en itouch? If i want to turn back to normal what do I do and will it erase everything on my itouch.
