Are itunes Ringtones Just For iPhones?

I have a verizon smartphone and they keep saying that my phone isn't ringtone compatible and I really want ringtones. I saw that you can buy ringtones on itunes, but does anyone know if they're just for iPhones? 'Cause I couldn't find anything online about it..
