Blackberry Bold for Teens? Is it suitable?

Ok, my birthday is just around the corner. I asked for a blackberry bold as my present. My mom agreed to this however my dad refused. He told me that the phone is not that suitable for teens Only business people use it. I'm confuse with this. It's just a phone. I'm considering Iphone 3G but cousin had one and replace it with a Nokia. She told me not to buy it. Help?
