Blackberry Curve Maps Application?

I have the blackberry curve from Verizon. It came with this application called maps. What is it? It doesn't seem to tell me where i am like the map application on my ipod touch. It seems rather pointless, which makes me think i MUST be using it wrong. Is there anything like the iphone map application, which takes your location? for the blackberry obviously THANK YOU!!!
