Can i download apps from u.s app store if i am based in india?

I don't have an iphone as yet. will be getting one in a weeks time. i just wanted to know if i can download apps from u.s app store or uk app store if my phone is purchased from india. i mean i live in india and use an indian subscriber. U.S app store offers way more apps than indian one.. so it possible?? thanks..
