Can you access the internet on your cell phone without data plan?

Is there any phone that has WiFi and allows you to access the internet without paying the 30$ data plan/month that you have to pay for Blackberry or Iphone, I have blackberry curve and I work most of the time where free WiFi is available, and my phone does not have WiFi, so I asked AT&T store if there is any phone with WiFi and does not need to buy the data plan, and the worker there said there is not a such phone, I don't know if this is true or not, because the worker will tell that anyway to make you pay more money, any one know of a such phone please let me know.

The ipod touch is not a phone and with a wi-fi hot spot, can connect to the internet. Most phones require a data plan to access the internet, but, I would imagine that with a active phone that can receive a free wi-fi connection, it would theoretically possible to get into the internet.

You can still purchase phones from AT&T without any plans at all. I purchased an HTC Touch Pro (branded AT&T Fuze) that has Wi-Fi, got it unlocked, and used it on T-Mobile’s site (no data plan).

The problem with this is that without a contract, you don’t get a discount on the phone. You have to pay full price.

But you could also buy almost any another GSM phone (with the correct frequencies needed for AT&T) and put your AT&T SIM card into it and get it on the network without a data plan.
