I want to buy an iphone in USA and would like to use it in INDIA?

Hi Friends! I would like to buy an iphone 3g in USA and would like to use it in INDIA. Do i need to unlock it inorder to use it with indian operatrs. where can i get it unlocked? or any software i can download?
