iPhone home button isn’t working?

Hopefully someone understands when I say, my home button on my iPhone is not working. So the story here is I dropped it and suddenly the home button is usless. I tried so hard pressing it but I didn’t want to damage it. I wanted to reset it but clearly I cannot do that if the home button is not working. I can still go to my apps but I have to lock and unlock it everytime I want to go to the home page. Does this need to be professionaly fixed or is there a special way?

If your iphone 3 home button is not working, press on the screen to the left and up about an inch from the home button.

It has worked for LOTS of people i have advised it to. And it worked for me. and has never stopped working since.

    Good luck!

Hi guys, after having the same exact problem hereВґs the solution:
I tried everything and the problem is this: inside the iphone ( 3g and 3gs ) there is 2 small connectors ( back of the screen ) that make the contact when the home button is pressed down. After some time i realised that these connectors were not making the proper contact, so here is what i did ( notice i have some experience opening iphoneВґs ). Remove the screen, and just push the connectors on the back of the screen a little bit ( just a small bit ) up, and “voilГЎ”, problem SOLVED. This is a 3 minute operation, and the home button works just as new, no need to get a new one, or expensive repairs. If you experience the same problem, dont bother reinstall OS, if you are jailbreaked itВґs not a bug, dont worry. It is just a bad connection as result of lots of use :-)
Any doubts, i will gladly help.

Amazing solution that fixed my home button! Since the home button depresses a little, dust and other stuff can get under it and stop the connection. So, take a cotton ball, dip it in a little rubbing alcohol, and press it into the home button for about 2 seconds, then dry it off, while pressing the button the whole time.Repeat this until your button is working again (10-20 times), if not, it could be another problem… If it was dropped this will not solve it.

I replaced the battery and the home button stopped working. With your tip, I see the two connector pads. I press hard on the lower left edge of the home button and made good connection again.

May be the flex cable that connects the home button to the motherboard is damaged. This part is cheap and easy to install.
You can find a replacement here:

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 3G. About an hour ago I pressed the home button and nothing happened so I assumed it was dead. I plugged it to the wall via the power adapter and it wouldn’t charge. So then I pressed the button at the top and the “slide to lock” screen came up. So I started using it and I tried to get out of an application (by pressing the home button) and it stayed on the same application. Now I have to restart it just to switch to a different application. I called an Apple Expert and they told me to take it to the nearest Apple Store. I asked them if they had ever heard of this and they said someone had called today not too long ago with the same problem. Like me they hadn’t dropped it or anything, it just stopped working. Now I am using my Matrix Pro while my iPhone 3G sits on my desk until I can make a trip to the Apple Store which is 45 minutes away.

Same thing here. I have had an itouch for barely a month, and the home button became less and less responsive until it finally stopped working…
I haven’t even taken it out of its protective flip-case, and it hasn’t ever been dropped! I hope that apple will replace my ipod!

THANK YOU!!!! Just finished the fix and it works great!!! I thought I was going to have to kill my four year old after he dropped my phone, but you’ve just saved his life!

Here’s how to remove the screen:
You’ll need a teeny-tiny philips head screw driver and a suction cup.

    1. Remove your sim card from the top of the phone using a paper clip.

    2. Using your philips head driver, remove the two screws from the bottom oof your phone near the speakers.

    3. Afix the suction cup to the lower portion of the screen–as close to the home button as possible.

    4. GENTLY pull up, angling the screen so as not to pull the top portion away from the body of the phone (there are additional connections that you don’t want to undo around the power button, etc.)!

    5. The connections you’re looking for are off to one side on the back of the home button. They’re two small, brass loops that simply need to be very gently pried back into a position where they can make contact.

Worked like a charm for me!
