Iphone Map Application, with GPS funtion?

i have read the mapkit framework reference provided by iphone development resources, but since I have never involve in building an iphone application so I don't really have the knowledge of building this application I want. can anyone tell me what are the steps i should do in order to build an application called Around Me?
