Iphone Updated not connecting to internet sever?

I plug up my iphone and i am on the internet and on the itunes music store and when i got to my iphone page to get the new down load i click the button and it says "itunes could not contact the iphone software update server because you are not connected to the internet". my safari works on the computer and my aol and enternet explore all work. Please help
