My iphone got locked pleaseeeeeeeeeee somebody help?

i have done a very silly mistake, i have upgraded my phone software through itunes and it got locked i cant even restore it. whenever i attach my 2g iphone to the computer and click on itunes my iphone come to the left side in itunes and on the right side msg appears " The SIM card inserted in this IPhone does not appear to be supported. only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iphone. please insert the sim card that came with your iphone or visit a supported carriers store to recieve a replacement sim card. PLEASE HELP i am in india right now and my brother-in-law got this phone for me from canada. I cant go with your suggestions.
