So what’s the trick to get the bluetooth feature to work in the iphone?

My iphone has the bluetooth sync feature but it wont sync with my mac which also has bluetooth. I've went through all the settings and got it to were it would seem it would work but the phone still says connecting but never does the mac says paired but not connected. So, does anyone know what the dealio is?
