my mother is visiting. she has no music on her iphone and wants some. if i plug her phone into my pc will it brick it? she said it wouldnt work on her pc (she's running linux with emulated windows)

i read somehwere online, but forgot where. im trying to reset the iphone 3g 8gb but the home button is broken so he said that you could get a piece of metal and touch two things on the mother board (i guess where the home button is) to actually make it work so i could do that and hold the power button and put it in recover mode. help???
