What are the pros and cons of jailbreaking my 2nd generation iPod touch?

I have the latest version of iTunes on my iPod (which is 3. Something). I am considering jailbreaking it. I know that you can customize some stuff and download apps for free. Do you still get updates for the downloaded apps? Do you get movies, tv shows, etc for free? Is there anything else I should know?
